Project Leader:
Sister Joan Mumaw
The Brothers of San Martin have built a primary and secondary school in Kit near Juba that serves 300 students. All they need now are desks and beds for their resident students. Well, South Sudan and the Brothers could use much more than desks and beds, but supporting their small school is a powerful place to start. The literacy rate of those over 24 in South Sudan is 27%. Only 18% of women can read and write. Conflicts and hunger have stalled the growth of this young country and its inhabitants. Most of the schools built since the country's independence in 2011 have been destroyed in the armed conflict. The Brothers themselves and the local workers are ready to make the beds and desks once the materials can be purchased. These local craftsmen will build 75 bunks for each school. $100 builds a desk for three students. Join the Brothers to give the children in Juba, South Sudan, a chance to succeed.
