Support Vocations in the Pope's Missions

Project Leader:

Pope Francis

In the late 19th century France, Jeanne Bigard and her mother, Stephanie, responded to a letter from a Bishop from their home country who was serving as a missionary in Japan. He wrote to them about the 50 young men he was helping prepare for the priesthood and about the difficulty he was having providing for them. Stephanie and Jeanne began praying and collecting funds to support those seminarians. In 1889, they established the Society of St. Peter Apostle to support mission vocations, both priestly and Religious.
Today, the Society of St. Peter Apostle, one of the four Pontifical Mission Societies, helps support vocations to the priesthood and religious life in the Missions. With your donation, you are helping provide textbooks, technology, infrastructure, housing, food, and medical care to those called to dedicate themselves fully to spreading the Gospel.
This year, some 28,000 mission seminarians in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and South America are counting on your help: $700 covers a year of study. This means that with just $60 a month you could be sponsoring one year of the formation of a future priest in Iraq, India or Nigeria. Likewise, those preparing to be religious Sisters and Brothers in the Pope’s missions need an annual support of $300.
These brave men and women preparing to dedicate their entire lives to Christ either as priest or as religious Sisters and Brothers, often do so knowing that their lives might be at risk because of their calling: During 2023, one Bishop, eight priests, one seminarian, one novice were murdered in mission territories, and dozens of priests and sisters were kidnapped, and several remain missing still.
These brave men and women need you to remember them in your daily prayers and, if your situation allows, to make their lives just a little bit easier by helping ensure they have access to textbooks and meals.
