Project Leader:
Sister Ranjita Kindo
Sumita H. is 16 years old (her face is covered to protect her identity). Born in Bandgoan, Sumita couldn't go to school - her family was too poor to send her. Her three sisters and her two brothers all worked as day laborers with her parents. She was taken in 2002. Sumita was rescued from her captors by Sister Gemma Toppo in 2011. Sumita and the other young women receive care at a shelter for trafficked young women run by another religious, Sister Ranjita. Sumita and the other girls there receive regular group and individual counseling sessions to help them gather up the pieces of their lives, heal from their past, and build a new life. Sumita is pursuing a formal education with the Ursuline Sisters of the Ranchi Province. As little as $20 helps her. Make a difference for Sumita today!
