Help Maiduguri Rebuild: A Call to Catholic Solidarity for Flood Victims

Project Leader:

Pope Francis

The Diocese of Maiduguri, in northeastern Nigeria, is experiencing a disaster of unprecedented magnitude. Following the collapse of the Alau Dam, the city has been devastated by catastrophic floods. More than half of Maiduguri is underwater, over one million people are affected, 410,000 have been displaced, and many lives and livelihoods have been tragically lost.

Our Catholic community is particularly hard hit. St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Diocesan Secretariat, and several parishes—St. John Custom, St. Michael Railway, and St. Augustine Gwange—are submerged. More than 20,000 faithful Catholics have lost their homes and their parishes, and they are in urgent need of our prayers and assistance.

In this time of crisis, we are reminded of our call to be Christ's hands and feet on earth, serving those who suffer. Pope Francis teaches us that true charity must lead us to action, and we are called to help our brothers and sisters in their moment of greatest need.

How You Can Help

Your generosity will enable the Diocese of Maiduguri to provide immediate relief in the form of:

-Food and Clean Water for those who have lost everything

-Medical and Hygiene Assistance to safeguard health and prevent disease

-Temporary Shelter for displaced families who have no place to call home

Together, as a global Catholic family, we can bring hope to those who feel forgotten. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a profound difference in the lives of those suffering.

Let us unite in faith and prayer, invoking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking for her protection and guidance during this difficult time. May God bless you for your compassion and your willingness to answer the call of the Gospel.

Donate Now to support the Diocese of Maiduguri in its efforts to restore dignity and provide relief to those affected by this tragedy.
