Emergency: Earthquake Relief for Ecuador

Project Leader:

Reverend Noe Reynaldo Franco Velasquez

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador April 16. Included in the 525 people killed were a number of missionaries working in Porto Viejo and Esmeralda areas. Hundreds more were injured. Homes, roads and communication systems were destroyed. The Pontifical Mission Societies of Ecuador are supporting various Church responses. The Archdiocese of Guayaquil, for example, has turned its parishes into aid centers. Water, blankets, staple foods and baby formula are among the greatest needs.
